Emma Stone’s Playful, Effortless Hair for Vogue’s September Issue

By Mara Roszak, Celebrity Hairstylist & RŌZ Founder
For Vogue’s September cover story, the fashion was structured and artful — true masterpieces — I wanted her hair to bring a sense of ease and lightness overall.
The hairstyle needed to feel free, full of movement, and a little bit playful, balancing the precision of the clothes with something more spontaneous.
I kept product light. RŌZ was my right hand here: I used the Air Thickening Spray and Root Lift to give her hair a touch of grip and lift before rough-drying it in for a voluminous base. Once dry, I worked the tiniest bit of Evergreen Style Cream into her hair to define texture while letting its natural shape take over. The key was not to overthink it — the beauty was in letting the hair move freely and flow organically.
The combination of structured couture and undone, airy hair created a striking visual contrast — one that felt very Emma. And getting to bring it all together alongside Pat McGrath’s artistry and photographer Jamie Hawkesworth’s vision was truly a dream.
