Katie Jane Hughes, celebrity & editorial makeup artist and founder of KJH.brand, sits in the chair with Mara Roszak for an interview and new do that Katie dubs "Skater Chic." 

Below is a little snippet from their interview...

Mara: I'd love to hear from you why you chose beauty?

Katie: Watching my mom as a little kid, completely transform in the mirror from this mom at home looking at four kids to this completely confident, stage queen. She was a singer and would have this aura about her, because she'd put on red lips and loads of bronzer, the blackest, thickest mascara you could possibly do. It was very influential on me as a kid.

Mara: What is something you feel very passionate about conveying to someone when you do their makeup? 

Katie: I want people to feel empowered. I want people to feel like they can do all of the things they've been told they could never do. 

Mara: What do you want people to feel when they’re doing their own makeup?

Katie: I'd love to educate people on how to be creative, and therefore they'll figure out what they like and what makes them feel good. 

Mara: When do you feel your most beautiful?

Katie: Surprisingly, I feel my most beautiful right before I go to bed at night when I’ve done my skincare routine. I feel like my favorite part of my skincare routine is my cleansing step. You know, washing the day away, that sort of feeling you get when your skin is clean and it just feels lovely, polished and refreshed.
