3 Hair Salon Marketing Tips You Can Do in 10 Minutes

You can make it easier for nearby clients to understand and book your salon in 10 minutes. Open your Google Business Profile—the salon information people see in Google Search and Maps—and make these three updates.

You do not need code, advertising software or technical experience. You only need accurate salon information and a clear way to book, whether online or by phone.

1. Add five services clients recognize (minutes 1–3)

Open the Services section of your Google Business Profile. Add the five services you most want clients to book, using the words a first-time client would recognize.

Clear service examples:

  • Haircut
  • Curly haircut
  • Blowout
  • Balayage
  • Highlights
  • Hair color
  • Color correction
  • Hair extensions
  • Bridal hair

Choose only services you currently offer. “Balayage” is clearer than an internal name such as “dimensional transformation.”

Service description example: “Custom balayage for soft, blended dimension. New color clients begin with a consultation to discuss their starting point, desired result, timing and upkeep.”

2. Write a description a new client can understand (minutes 4–6)

Your salon description should answer four questions: Where are you? What do you specialize in? Who do you serve? How do clients book?

Copy-and-fill template:

[Salon name] is a [type of salon or studio] in [neighborhood or city], specializing in [three to five services]. We work with clients looking for [practical hair goals or audience fit]. Appointments are available through [booking method].

Completed example:

Cedar House is a neighborhood hair salon in Silver Lake specializing in precision cuts, dimensional color, balayage and curly hair services. Our stylists work with clients looking for wearable results that fit their texture, routine and maintenance goals. Appointments are available through our online booking page.

Keep the description clear and natural. A list of search phrases will not help clients understand your salon.

3. Check the details and how clients book (minutes 7–10)

Confirm that your salon name, address, phone number and hours match across Google and your website. If clients book online, check your booking page too and add a direct link. If clients book by phone, make sure the number is correct and calls are answered or returned promptly.

For online booking, send clients to the correct location, stylist or service menu instead of a general homepage. Open the link on your phone while logged out. A first-time client should be able to choose a service and book without guessing.

Your 10-minute salon visibility checklist

  1. Minutes 1–3: Add five clear, bookable services.
  2. Minutes 4–6: Add or improve the salon description.
  3. Minutes 7–10: Check the hours, phone number, address and booking process.

These steps are a starting point, not a guarantee of a top ranking. Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence. What you can control is whether your salon is accurate, easy to understand and easy to book.

Frequently asked questions

Where should a hair salon start with marketing?
Start with a complete Google Business Profile. It shows nearby clients the salon's services, location, hours, photos, reviews and booking details in Google Search and Maps.
Do I need an agency for salon SEO?
No. A salon owner or manager can complete the profile, services, description, contact information and booking checks in this guide without code or paid SEO software. More competitive markets may eventually benefit from additional help, but these fundamentals should come first.
Will a Google Business Profile make my salon rank first?
No one can guarantee the top local position. Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence. A clear, accurate profile helps Google and prospective clients understand the salon, but rankings also depend on location, competition and other signals.
