It always felt like something I was “managing” - no matter how I styled it, I was considering frizziness, volume, and curl pattern.
Layers! For a long time, I was afraid adding layers into my hair would mean more volume, which I was fighting in a lot of ways. In reality, adding layers really just shapes the hair and provides beautiful movement. Blunter cuts I got in the past really worked against my curls - they were weighed down at the top and poofy at the ends.
